VeganMoFo 22: London, part 2

The last time I was in London (in August), we went to another new-for-me restaurant (M. had eaten there once before): Mildreds (45 Lexington Street, Soho).

I'm sorry for the horrible picture of plate of food I already dug into, but it tasted SO good, I just have to share it: Chargrilled artichoke crostini with lemon aioli.

I couldn't leave without dessert (here in the Netherlands, the most exciting thing I get for dessert in a restaurant is sorbet or a fruit salad, so when there are other options, I happily indulge!): Peach melba tart tatin with raspberry coulis and pistachios. (And homemade ice cream!)

When the waiter brought our bill, he said something that sounded like 'Tush and tag'. We looked at him with a quizzical look on our faces, and he repeated the same thing. We still had no idea what he was saying. Then he said: 'You're Danish, right?' Now if only someone in London would call me Finnish, I'll have my 'Are you from [a Scandinavian country]' quartet complete. (And I'm not even that blond.)

The only complaint I had about Mildreds is the noise; I almost had to shout to M. to make myself heard. But I am definitely going back because the food was delicious!

For lunch the next day, we went to Amano. That's the restaurant where we frequently ate when we lived there (I did an internship there for three months, while M. worked at the same charity - it's how we got to know each other). You can find Amano near Borough Market and the flatbread and bread stick are so good (you can get all the sandwich fillings in wraps too, but I don't know why anyone would prefer rounds of cardboard over freshly baked bread...). And finally, they marked the red pepper hummus sandwich as vegan! (When I lived there, it was only marked with a small green dot as vegetarian. Now it says 'vegan'. Yay!)

Ok, so the picture doesn't do this sandwich justice, but look at that bread, and the large flecks of salt!

Ok, so now I want to go back to London. Asap please!

If a vegetable is grilled, it's automatically 10 times better, right? The artichoke looks so wonderful. No chocolate in the Netherlands?
